Listing Drop Ship Products As Ebay Pre-sale Items

To protect buyers from not receiving the items they order, eBay sets a strict policy for listing items you don’t have on hand. As you might guess, this includes drop ship items.
You can list drop ship items on eBay as pre-sale items, as long as you follow eBay’s policy on pre-sale items. eBay’s policy governing items currently not in your possession at the time of the listing (including drop ship items) states that you must:
* List the item as a pre-sale itemany item not currently in your possession at the time of the listing.
* Guarantee that you’ll be able to ship the item within 30 days of purchase or within 30 days from the date the listing ends.
* Clearly state in the listing that the item is a pre-sale item and you will ship it within 30 days of purchase or within 30 days of the time the listing expires.
* Include a “this is a pre-sale item” message and format the message in an HTML font size of 3 or larger.
Guaranteeing timely shipment
You can never be 100% certain that an item will be in stock when a customer places an order, but you can reduce the risks of backorders.
* Check the items inventory level at least 24 hours before the auction ends.
* End the auction early if the item is out of stock.
* Limit the duration of a listing for any quick-selling items or categories. Consider listing the item for only 1-3 days.

Tip: You can be a little more ambitious with listing slow moving items, even going so far as listing an item that shows only 1 in stock. This is a bit of a gamble, so tread carefully.
Composing your “this is a pre-sale item” message.
When you list a pre-sale item, prospective customers often assume that they’ll have to wait longer for the item, which often discourages buyers from placing their orders with you. Compose your “this is a presale item” message in a way that conveys quick delivery; for example:
This is a pre-sale item and will ship directly from my supplier and arrive at your doorstep in 5-10 days after payment is received.
Tip: To raise customer confidence, consider adding another message stressing that the item ships via UPS or Fed Ex and includes shipping insurance.
Avoiding eBay penalties.
When drop shipping, there is always the possibility of a backorder situation occurring. By following best practices as described in the Drop Ship Tips: Minimizing Backorders article, you should rarely, if ever, run into a backorder situation.
However, be aware that if it happens too often, eBay may suspend your account. Take a look at When Backorders Strike for ways to minimize damage when a backorder situation does arise.
